Diaspora Dialogues

Join us for an enriching afternoon of conversation and reflection at ACSYA’s "Diaspora Dialogues," a panel event dedicated to exploring the experiences and insights of Assyrians in the diaspora who have recently traveled back to their homeland, Assyria. Centered around the theme of "Renewal and Revival – Past, Present, and Future," this event will delve into the significance of reconnecting with our roots and the enduring spirit of our heritage.

Our panelists will share personal stories, cultural observations, and the powerful emotions evoked by their journeys. Through their narratives, we will uncover multifaceted dimensions of the return to the homeland, from the deep sense of belonging and challenges faced to the hopes of the future for the Assyrian people.

"Diaspora Dialogues" promises to be a thought-provoking and inspirational event that brings together stories of revival and renewal to highlight the enduring bond between Assyrians and their homeland. Join us to celebrate the past, engage with the present, and envision a future where the Assyrian heritage continues to flourish across generations.

Panel 1: Revival

The "Revival" panel will focus on the theme of resuming the cultural, social, and historical ties that bind the Assyrian community to its ancestral homeland. Our panelists will discuss how revisiting the homeland serves as a gishra (meaning bridge) to reconnect with the past, preserving and rejuvenating traditions, languages, and customs that have withstood the test of time. Panelists will include June Ishtar, Nahren Gorges, and Anton Roberts.

Panel 2: Renewal

The "Renewal" panel will explore the theme of restoring the fractured relationship between Assyrians in the diaspora to the homeland in the context of contemporary challenges and opportunities. Our panelists will share how their recent travels have sparked new beginnings, inspired innovative projects, and rekindled the spirit of resilience within the Assyrian community. Panelists will include Johnson Ashak, Barseen Oshana, and Lina Yolaha.
